Influencers,Chainkeen sex scandals, Mormon moms and the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; the themes of one of the internet's biggest pop culture dramas of the post-pandemic era are set to be chronicled in Hulu's latest social-media-to-small-screen endeavor, titled "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives."
The series will cover the drama that largely kicked off in 2022, when hugely influential "Mom Tok" influencer Taylor Frankie Paul (who boasts more than 4 million followers on TikTok) told viewers that members of her tight-knit Mormon friend group had been "soft-swinging," a practice where couples allegedly shared sexual partners but didn't go "all the way."
What ensued was calamity from all corners: partners breaking up or divorcing, people getting together, families dismantling, alliances switching, gossip videos and sorid details leaking. Now, a group of these #MomTik Mormon moms are bringing the show from social media to the not-so-small screen with "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives."
Hulu's show synopsis leans into the two-year-old intrigue that started things off, alluding heavily to the sexual scandal.
"The scandalous world of a group of Mormon mom influencers implodes when they get caught in the midst of a swinging sex scandal that makes international headlines," says the summary. "Now, their sisterhood is shook to its core. Faith, friendship and reputations are all on the line. Will #MomTok be able to survive and continue to give the rulebook a run for its money, or will this group fall apart?"
